What will it take to succeed in school?
AVID students will need to follow the MASTER PLAN for academic success:
M Students must be mentally receptive to learning.
A Students must be active learners.
S Students must study efficiently.
T Students must allow themselves time to learn the course material.
E Students must take time to evaluate themselves. They must also strive for excellence.
R Students must know how to access and use the resources they need for each subject.
What supplies must I have for AVID?
From year to year the percentage values may change depending on the focus of instruction, but the following will give an idea as to the importance of some of the basic AVID strategies.
50% Organization (Master Binder, Agenda, Cornell Notes)
50% AVID Projects & Assignments
What is expected of me in AVID?
AVID students are expected to attend their classes and complete all assignments in all subjects on time and to the best of their ability. AVID students are also expected to act responsibly and respectfully in their classes and at school. Students not fulfilling this expectation will be put on AVID Alertî. After a meeting with both the student and parent, a probationary contract will be written and put in place that will hopefully motivate the student to make responsible decisions concerning school and their academic work. As a last resort, it may be necessary to remove a student from the AVID program.
What else is unique to the AVID program?
A major focus of the AVID program is to assist students in exploring what careers may be of interest to them. To help with that, students will get the opportunity to hear about different careers from members of the community. They will also be able to visit several post-secondary institutions in the area to learn about the variety of programs that are offered.
The only place where success comes before work is in a dictionary.
