AVID 10 continues to refine what students learned the year before in AVID 9, however, there is a major focus on study and writing skills in preparation of Provincial exams. In addition to AVID strategies, students will combine the career & personal planning curriculum of AVID with that of Life Education 10 and receive their credit for Life Education 10.
Strategies for Success:
Organization (Binder & Agenda), Time Management, Goal Setting,
Cornell Note-taking, Writing, Inquiry (Critical Thinking), Collaboration, Reading, Test-taking/Study Strategies, Public Speaking, Career Exploration, Technology & Research Skills.
AVID 10 Goals
Refining AVID Strategies for Success
Strong focus on:
Writing
Inquiry
Reading
Collaboration
What supplies must I have for AVID 10?
AVID students are expected to attend their classes and complete all assignments in all subjects on time and to the best of their ability. AVID students are also expected to act responsibly and respectfully in their classes and at school. Students not fulfilling this expectation will be put on AVID Alert. After a meeting with both the student and parent, a probationary contract will be written and put in place that will hopefully motivate the student to make responsible decisions concerning school and their academic work. As a last resort, it may be necessary to remove a student from the AVID program.
What else is unique to the AVID program?
A major focus of the AVID program is to assist students in exploring what careers may be of interest to them. To help with that, students will get the opportunity to hear about different careers from members of the community. They will also be able to visit several post-secondary institutions in the area to learn about the variety of programs that are offered.
